Google Delaying Mobile Software Android

posted by: Vlad Akilov

Google may dominate the online world, but they are finding out the hard way that jumping into the mobile phone industry is a different story entirely.

In November, Google, along with more than 30 partners, announced that they would be offering handsets based off of their mobile software, Android. At the time, Google was confident that they would be able to have these phones on the market sometime during the early part of the second half of 2008. Of course, a project of this magnitude can change many times over and is based on thousands of factors. For this reason, Google has announced that the phones will not be made available to the public until sometime during the 4th quarter. (more…)

posted by: Vlad Akilov

Do you always find yourself behind pace or missing budgets? Is this costing your company a lot of money and time? If so, the service offered by Tickspot may be just what you have been looking for. Although this is not the only way for you to track time and budgets, it is surely something that you will want to consider. When it comes down to it, Tick has a lot to offer people from a number of different industries.

As a freelancer, one of the most important tasks of your job is to accurately track the amount of time that you spend on each project. Of course, you may be able to get away with not doing this, but there is no point in taking the risk. TV has just been ‘Joost’-ed!

posted by: John Vincent Hilario

This is part one, in a two part article about Joost, this part will be an introduction about Joost. Part two will be a review, or rather a preview since it hasn’t actually been released to the public, I am one of the lucky few who actually has a beta invite.

From the innovators who brought you the peer-to-peer file sharing program Kazaa, and the free peer-to-peer online phone carrier Skype, now introduce Joost™ (pronounced “juiced”), an Internet television application that’s transposed the television industry. Co-founders Janus Friis, 30, and Niklas Zennström, 40, are known for “sticking it to the man” with their programs that put the control back to the people. Joost™ works like an on-demand television, removing all of its negative qualities, one of which being what Friis describes as “televisions being locked in linear time”. Joost™ offers “high-quality full-screen picture, hundreds of full-length shows and easy channel-flipping.” (more…)

Free Alternatives to Expensive Software

posted by: Phil

Software can be really expensive, and when you have to use many different programs to get what you need done, it can start to add up pretty fast. I’m a cheap college student, and I have to admit that I used to go the torrent route whenever I was looking for a program that I couldn’t afford. Lately, however, I’ve felt kinda bad about that, and I’ve found myself looking to the open source/freeware community more often for comparable alternatives to those expensive programs.
