Sure it helps you out. Number 1 thing is to network, so go out and meet people especially on your targeted career path. But don’t brush off everyone else, you never know who can help. Best think you can do is imagine a job you really like to have and venture out to indeed.com and see what are the job requirements for the job you would like. I am currently working in tech, would that give me any type of advantage or am I SOL? Was thinking of going to ITT tech, is that a good choice?

Well no IT people do all kinds of things, however most likely one would have to start somewhere, and that’s the most common path… Technician -> Other areas. Replacing mice and resetting passwords is not too bad of a start either… majority of starting out people man the phones.

I’m not trying to be negative at all. If that’s really what your calling is, then you definitely should do it. What the problem is that the field was hot with .com bubble, Y2K and so forts… so a lot of people jumped on that ship… now when IT market tightened up a lot of people with no to low experience just cant get placed anywhere.

So basically if I don’t know of anyone that works in the IT world then Im screwed as far as getting hired in somewhere? And is that really all IT people do is reset passwords & replace mice lol.

IT workers… well pay is good assuming you have good experience. However it’s hard to get good experience… well virtually impossible if someone can’t get you in. So money is there but it’s hard to reach for it. And as exciting as IT sounds, it’s not quite as fun when you are stuck there resetting passwords for users for 10 years straight, or replacing mice.
