posted by: Vlad Akilov

Do you always find yourself behind pace or missing budgets? Is this costing your company a lot of money and time? If so, the service offered by Tickspot may be just what you have been looking for. Although this is not the only way for you to track time and budgets, it is surely something that you will want to consider. When it comes down to it, Tick has a lot to offer people from a number of different industries.

As a freelancer, one of the most important tasks of your job is to accurately track the amount of time that you spend on each project. Of course, you may be able to get away with not doing this, but there is no point in taking the risk. Generally speaking, Tick seems like a simple service on the surface; it is nothing more than a web based time tracking service. But when you dive deeper into the services that are offered by Tick, you will begin to see just how much it has to offer.

First off, you need to know how Tick works. The nice thing about this is that the service is web based. What does this mean to you? Simply put, it means that you can use Tick on any browser. And since it is web based, you can also use the service on any computer. This is a huge advantage if you are a freelancer because many have more than one computer that they use on a regular basis. As long as you have your log in you will be fine.
The interface is a simple design, and despite some confusing sample images, you should be able to find your way around without too much trouble.

After you sign in via your login page, you will have the ability to get started with the many services that are offered by Tick. The main duties that you can perform include: maintenance to your account, creating a new project, entering time for a project that you are currently working on, or viewing reports on projects. As you can imagine, you will more than likely sign into your Tick account with one of these duties in mind.

Before you can create a new project, you will first need to create a new client. Remember, you need to be an administrator in order to do this. Tick gives you the ability to be either an administrator or non administrator. This works out well if you are going to have other people working on projects with you. If you have other people who may want to use the system, you will want to make sure that they are set up as administrators as well. Of course, this is personal preference based on the way that you want to run your company.

After you have created a new client, you can then proceed to do the same with your project. Doing this is easy enough, and once you create one project you will have a much better grip for future jobs. You then need to make a decision on your project’s budget. This is up to you, but if you are not sure you do not have to set a budget.

If you are dealing with a large project, you can break it down into smaller tasks and assign separate budgets. This will help you to better track the project, and is a huge benefit if you have more than one employee working on the same job.
Tick offers freelancers the ability to purchase the subscription that will best suit their needs. This ranges from a free membership, to $79 for the top of the line set up.

Benefits

  1. Once you have your account set up, it is easy to customize to suit your needs and projects.
  2. A simple interface makes for little to no hassles.
  3. The system moves fast no matter what you are doing. This is a huge benefit that many people may take for granted.

Cons

  1. Sample images can confuse new users.
  2. Customer service is not as effective as it could be.
  3. It takes some time to set up additional employees as either admin or non admin.

All in all, Tick offers a functional and effective way for freelancers and companies to track time and budgets. Although there are some bugs that need to be worked out, for now, Tick is a great service.
