Five Writing Related Mistakes to Avoid

posted by: Vlad Akilov

As a blogger, you are only as good as the words that you write. After all, your words are what people are going to read. For this reason, you want to make sure that every post you make is error free, and hopefully in good taste. While everybody makes mistakes, as a blogger you will want to do whatever you can to avoid them.
Here are five common writing related mistakes to avoid when blogging.

1. Not Proofreading

Not proofreading your post before making it live is a huge mistake. Even if you think that you did a good job, silly mistakes can make their way into your work without you realizing it. A quick proofreading job will catch all of these mistakes.

2. Use Words that Make Sense

Have you ever seen a blog post where there are a lot of big words that make no sense? If so, you know just how annoying this can be. Instead of trying to look smart with big words, stick to ones that you can use in the appropriate context.

3. Proper English

Although blogging is far from an English term paper, you still want to use proper sentence structure and grammar. Remember, the main point of your blog is for other people to read it. If poor structure is keeping them from doing this you are not going to succeed in attracting new readers.

4. Don’t Curse in your Posts

There are times when you may want to slide a “curse word” into a blog post, but these should be few and far between. Even if you think that this is no big deal, a reader may take this more seriously than you. Do not take the chance of scaring readers away because you cannot lay off the four letter words!

5. Don’t Be Scared

You should not be scared of starting a blog because your English is not perfect. This may not be related to the four mistakes above, but it is important to know. If you want to blog, get started. Over time you will begin to catch on!

Avoiding the five mistakes above will help you to become a better blogger in the long run.
