All that is perfectly valid, but remember this is all about the guy who is using Good-Tutorials to make abstract grunge wallpapers and wants to start designing websites.

"If you’re the most talented designer this world has ever seen, you’re nothing without your tools."

That sentence makes no sense. If you're the world's most talented designer and tell a guy "dude, do this", you're still the most talented designer this world has ever seen. Tools are the -last- phase of the design process, and can be handled by anyone. It is the preceding process that separates the designers from the doers.

Further on, a "talent that can not be learned" is close to non existing.

To encourage people to dive into half-assed Photoshop tutorials and expect them to turn into geniuses are hopeless. 'Design' is not Photoshop or Gimp or whatever your 'weapon of choice' is. 'Design' is merely to create something that did not exist before, either seemingly brand new, or a combinations of existing concepts.

Learning the principles and doing the simple stuff is the safest way, and probably the only way to avoid more how-to-make-insane-abstracts floating around. Move then on to the creative phase, developing your idea generating skills and try to come up with original ideas. If you then decide you want to be the doer, try to redesign your designs in whatever application you prefer.

Seen the Pink Floyd cover for the Dark Side of the Moon? Storm Thorgerson (g-r-e-a-t designer) is famous for designing that one, but he didn't do the graphics. He -designed- the cover; he came up with it - some other guy did the illustration.

The next thing is, you're telling people to start off with a document of 1000x1000 px? Sounds like the product of your personal habits, not to mention another restriction.

You, sir, need to tell these guys to pick up their bank layout pads.

Sorry for some harsh critique, buddy. Now I'm heading back to your blog, where I came from, which by the way had heaps of interesting stuff.

Cheers. :D

[...] The sheer variety offered in this blog is enough to keep any hungry minds salivating. Their previews of up coming Google apps (like this one) are really helpful for getting to know Google’s online arsenal better. Additionally, they also offer help on all sorts of blogging related topics (click) which are splendid. Not to mention a bit of humor is thrown in the mix giving the blog a rich texture.
